For many, many years when we’d take a family drive, I'd say to my daughter, “keep your eyes peeled for the fire truck or the next McDonald's" to keep her engaged and finding landmarks along the way. I’ll never forget the day my daughter actually understood the meaning of 'keep your eyes peeled'. She finally connected the saying with peeling a banana and she laughed and laughed. She thought that was the funniest thing she’d ever heard. For months I’d say to her ‘keep your eyes peeled’ and she’d laugh out loud every time.
